The Dangers of Distracted Driving to Pedestrians

Pedestrian fatalities continue to reach record numbers on Washington roads. A recent article posted by Q13 Fox, addresses what the Washington State Department of Transportation is doing to address this ongoing problem.

Another article in the Urbanist, explores a number of reasons why pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities have increased so dramatically. As one would expect, distracted drivers texting and using cell phones, or drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol were involved in many of the vehicle-pedestrian incidents. However, the highest contributor to fatal pedestrian accidents is excessive speed.

At Emerald Law Group, we represent pedestrians from across the State of Washington that are injured in pedestrian-motor vehicle accidents. Today’s drivers are often texting, talking on the phone, or looking at their navigation and become distracted. When you combine distracted drivers with high speeds, pedestrians are all too often injured or even killed. Pedestrians have the right-of-way in almost every circumstance, but many drivers fail to follow the rules of the road and end up injuring others. If you or a loved one are injured by a careless driver, contact us so we can help. We always offer a free consultation to discuss any claim involving pedestrian-motor vehicle accidents.
