Emerald Law Group Secures $1.15 Million Settlement for Family of Murdered Woman
Emerald Law Group is proud to announce a $1.15 million settlement on behalf of the estate and children of Destinie Gates-Jackson, a young Seattle mother of two who was tragically murdered in 2020 by her former boyfriend while he was on parole for a prior assault against her.
Background of the Case
At the time of the incident, Destinie Gates-Jackson had a no-contact order in place against Lester Thompson, her former boyfriend and the father of her two children. Thompson was on parole for previously assaulting Destinie, but the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) failed to properly supervise him.
During litigation, Emerald Law Group uncovered that the DOC was negligent in its supervision. Thompson absconded from parole and murdered Destinie, leaving behind her minor daughter and adult son.
